A Relaxing Day in Zhengzhou

Today we had a much needed day off. Nothing to do and nowhere to be; my favorite kind of day! Milo started fussing at 5:00 am again. He came in our bed, but didn't sleep very well from then on. We all had a fitful sleep until about 8:00, then got up for the day. It was so nice to just take it easy this morning! We ate a late breakfast and had an early afternoon nap. Just what the doctor ordered!

This afternoon, Milo has surprised us! He has been making very deliberate eye contact often and is so, so smiley! He has even followed us around the room with his eyes! Not all the time, but a few times. I just love him so! He is such a fun, happy kid! I love seeing more and more of his personality emerge each day! Without further ado, the many faces of Milo:

One of the more exciting parts of our day was that Milo actually played with a toy!! We put this toy on his wrist (which we've done several times before), and this time he looked at it, touched it, talked to it, and put it in his mouth!! YAY!!! I'm so proud of this boy!!

We had wanted to go to the park near our hotel today, as it's supposed to be awesome. It was super windy and cold, though, so we just mostly hung out in the hotel. We decided to venture out this evening, though, and take a walk to the Walmart! This is risky business, as scooters and bike rule the sidewalk. The right of way in China goes like this: if you're bigger and could run the smaller thing over, you have the right of way. That means pedestrians are at the bottom of the totem pole. You could be very innocently walking in a straight line down the sidewalk, but if a scooter is heading your way, watch out! I was very nervous at first, but we did okay! We even had to cross the street a few times and managed to not get hit! Wahoo! Walmart was very...interesting. Not much on the shelves resembles home.
You might have to enlarge this picture to see, but there are dead animals all on display here. The smell in Walmart was nauseating! I've also never in my entire life had the stare down like we did in Walmart! Every single person we passed unabashedly looked us up and down and had to check if the child in the Ergo was Chinese. Kind of funny and understandable, but also very embarrassing! I hate being in the spotlight, and it is so magnified here!
Well, we didn't end up making any purchases at Walmart today. No pig feet or dried duck. Maybe next time, though ;) Luckily we ran into a Pizza Hut! I was craving a slice of home today. Yum! Even though we were stared down like crazy in there as well, at least a few people smiled!

Even though we've really enjoyed this lazy day, it gives us too much time to think of home. We are missing our three kids like CRAZY! I am starting to form a constant pit in my stomach. I've absolutely LOVED China and we still have half the time left, but I sure miss my loves at home! I simply cannot wait until we're all together under one roof!

    1. Unfortunately it's not all too uncommon for the orphanages to keep the babies drugged to keep them quiet. I am starting to think he must have been! The change in him is SO drastic!
